HAPPY 90th BIRTHDAY MARY
A party on January 22nd marked the 90th birthday of our very first client – Mrs Mary Malloy. The party was attended by many of the residents of Brockhill, where Mary now lives, and she was delighted to find that one of her guests was Christine Brimecome who became her volunteer visitor back in 2006. Although Christine now spends some of her time in the States she and Mary have remained good friends and Christine visits Mary as often as possible.
Entertainment was provided by ‘Roland’ who sang a selection of 60s songs and played the guitar and keyboard with Mary happily clapping along to the music – aided and abetted in this picture by our Manager, Mary Lucas.
Mary, the daughter of a Portuguese father and an Irish mother, was born in India and raised in Delhi along with her two brothers and one sister. She came to England when she was in her twenties.
After the death of her husband, Len, she brought up her daughter, Marsha, on the Sheerwater Estate. Marsha is now married and has a grown up son of whom Mary is very proud.
Mary left her home in Sheerwater a couple of years ago and now resides at Brockhill in Goldsworth Park.
Before she became incapacitated Mary was an enthusiastic charity worker, working with the WRVS for seven years and also helping out at the old Westgate Centre, which was situated where the Light Box in Woking now stands. In days gone by the older people of Sheerwater knew they could rely on Mary for help with their shopping.
Our first client with her volunteer!
Age Concern Woking continues to enjoy visiting and supporting Mary, and we all wish her many more ‘happy birthdays’.
