Look after your old folk’ plea from Age Concern Woking
A plea for families to include their older relatives in their celebrations was made by Mary Lucas, manager of Age Concern Woking, after the local charity’s annual party.
Mary said it was really upsetting to find that some of ACW’s clients were not included in the annual events. “It is not only these big celebrations, but also during the darker months of the year it is particularly important to involve the oldest and loneliest members of the family as the days can seem very long when you have nothing to look forward to,” said Mary.
The Age Concern Woking party, held at Old Woking Community Hall, was attended by nearly 50 people including volunteers, guests, clients, staff, firemen and trustees. Food and drink were provided by the trustees, staff and a kind donation.
A quiz, was compered by trustee Tina Liddington, and the winning team included staff members Rose Joyce and Kate Armstrong (plus Kate’s children).
Musical entertainment through the evening was provided by Carmine Membrino and Ivan McCormick.

Brookwood Cemetery and ACW log offer
Brookwood Cemetery Managing Director, Mr Erkin Guney has once again offered free logs to older people of limited means living in the borough. All requests for firewood must be made via Age Concern Woking who will ensure that the recipient is of pensionable age and that they are aware of the fire safety guidelines issued by Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. We can arrange a free home fire risk check and install smoke detectors if necessary.
Mary Lucas, manager of Age Concern Woking, said the charity was very grateful for Mr Guney’s continued support and that this was particularly appreciated in last winter’s cold spell.
