Recruiting volunteers at Woking Volunteers Day
Left to right: Mary Lucas, ACW manager; Kathryn Richards and Armindo Lago, ACW volunteers; and Kate Armstrong, ACW office manager. |
We need volunteers to become a friend to an older person, to carry out home fire risk checks and to help us with fundraising. Our offer of friendship can make a huge difference to the life of a lonely, older person and can be a very rewarding experience for the volunteer Friend.
Can you spare an hour or so each week? Are you kind and patient? Do you have empathy with older people? If you can answer ‘yes’ to these three questions we would welcome you as a volunteer ‘Friend’. We are looking for both male and female ‘Friends’ and will provide you with the necessary training and support.
We are also looking for volunteers to be trained to carry out home fire risk checks in the homes of older people. After training by Woking fire fighters, you will be able to recognise dangers in the home and be qualified to offer advice and safety suggestions. You will also be shown how to install free smoke detectors where necessary.
Fund raising is an important to ensure an income that Age Concern Woking can continue its work. Any help offered is gladly accepted. You may be able to help for an hour or so at one of our street collections, hold an event of your own or make a donation – we are always open to suggestions.
Whatever you can do for us would be most welcome – phone us or call in or click below for a volunteer registration form or a chat. We look forward to your call.
